Save the Date

Publisher:
When Alex and Lucy pick out wedding invitations, they wonder if they can be printed in vanishing ink.

Former NFL star Alex Sinclair is a man who has it all--except the votes he needs to win his bid for Congress. Despite their mutual dislike, Alex makes Lucy a proposition: pose as his fiancee in return for the money she desperately needs. Bound to a man who isn't quite what he seems, Lucy will find her heart on the line--and maybe even her life. When God asks Alex and Lucy to scrap their playbook and follow his rules, will they finally say, "I do"?

What I thought...
I have really enjoyed this book! It the story of a young woman (Lucy) who wonders what is going to happen to her Girls home after she loses funding. She strikes up a deal with a Ex-NFL hero (Alex) who needs Lucy to get elected...Its kind of The Proposal meets Sweet Home Alabama...but with a Christian perspective.
Throughout Save the Date the "agreement" causes a roller coaster of emotions, not only between Alex and Lucy, but Alex and his brother, Lucy and Matt, plus her Grandmother and deceased Father she never knew.
Lucy finds her self surprised when the things don't turn out the way she assumed they would. Lucy seeks the Lord's guidance through the book...and finds her self surprised at who else is seeking the Lord as well!
At the beginning Save the Date talks about how Lucy runs a girls home for young women who have been in the foster care system, but are now 18 and have no where to go...expect Saving Grace. Saving Grace is a big part of this book and I really like that, all too often I read a book where the main woman is kind of a blur...who is she, does she have friends? a job? Jenny B. Jones did a wonderful job making Lucy feel like a friend! Alex...I actually really liked Alex from the beginning. He was rough and hard around the edges, but I knew something great was on its way! He's a twin, which I like, since I have twins.
Save the Date is funny, Witty, and keeps you wondering what is going to happen...all the while surprising you! I would highly recommend this book!!

The Life GOD BLESSES

From Publishers Weekly
Cymbala's fourth book supports his thesis that God will favor those whose hearts are genuinely open to him. In six brief chapters, Cymbala alternates between biblical and contemporary stories many about his parishioners to illustrate simple, powerful messages about how people have succeeded and failed in efforts to live a blessed life. He does a fine job of making Old Testament stories accessible to a wide audience, and in doing so shows how kings such as Uzziah and Josiah interacted with God and reaped both blessings and sorrows, depending on the condition of their hearts and the choices they made. Mixed with these stories are snippets of information about the Brooklyn Tabernacle, Cymbala's astoundingly successful church, but for a fuller story of its humble beginnings and miraculous growth, readers would do better to read Cymbala's first three publications, as well as Carol Cymbala's book (reviewed below). Cymbala's tone is refreshingly earnest, and while he does not downplay God's ability and willingness to allow human suffering, he and Sorenson emphasize above all God's tenderness and deep love for everyone. Also admirable is the absence of vitriol in this book; Cymbala imitates the godly gentleness he extols and repeatedly warns against the pride and hardness of heart to which those who are blessed can fall prey. While some of Cymbala's rhetoric may superficially appear to echo the gospel of health and wealth, even the most cursory reading reveals that he speaks of blessings much less tangible and more enduring than money and material well-being.

My thoughts...
This is a amazing book! Totally uplifting! Althought small and a fairly quick read it is like nothing I have ever read! The Life God Blesses is full of God wonderful blessings. Some of the stories Pastor Cymbala writes about just left my jaw dropped...all the while sitting in amazment of what our wonderful Lord can do! We have a wonderful, LOVING father who wants to show us. The Lord does great things every single day. After reading this book, I have such a fire for the Lord!
God is searching for people to bless. Find out how to have a heart that God cannot resist and you will become a channel of his blessing for your family, your church, and your world.

The Shelter of God's Promises

From the Publisher:

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. "In a world of uncertainty, pain, and struggle, where do you find solid assurance and unshakeable truth?
Gifted Bible teacher and inspiring Women of Faith speaker Sheila Walsh offers powerful, heart-filled teaching on ten bedrock promises of God, providing the foundation for daily confidence, joy, and hope.

In The Shelter of God’s Promises, Sheila searches Scripture for what God has promised us, what God's promises mean, and how encounters with Christ are the eternal fulfillment of His unrelenting commitment to us. In this riveting walk through some of the Bible's most compelling stories, Walsh unveils ten foundational promises of God that secure our lives during even the most difficult times. Sheila weaves her hallmark storytelling, inspiring personal experience, and Scripture to help readers gain a trust in God that will sustain them for a lifetime.

 My Review:
I will be honest this is the very first book I have read by Sheila Walsh. Through the years I have never been able to make it to Women of Faith for one reason or another. All I can say is I have truly been missing out on this Awesome woman of God!

The Shelter of God's Promises is a amazing book,
The book is broken down into categories of God's Promises:

Promises, Promises- I Need Something to Hold On To
Provision- I Don't Have Enough
Peace- I'm Afraid and Feel Alone
Confidence-I Can't See God's Plan in this Pain
Love- I Don't Believe that Anyone Could Really Love Me
Grace- I Have Failed
Hope- I'm Broken
Strength- I Feel Things Are Crashing Around Me
More- I Know There's Something Better
Home- I have a Future

This book reminds us of the truly Unconditional Love that our heavenly Father has for us. No matter what we do, his promises remain.

This book came to me at the perfect time in my life. From the very first page I was hooked. Sheila has a beautiful gift from the Lord and shares it in a way that is very clear and understandable. In the very first chapter she speaks of her father-in-law and Moses

A few days ago my Mother who lives alone lost her Job. She is afraid of the unknown and not sure what God is going to do in her life. I think that this book would be absolutly wonderful her. Or the close family friend who is facing Breast Cancer know that her Husband may not survive till morning. I WILL be recommending the book to Family and Friends.

Oh, and this isn't just a book! In the back there is a in-depth Bible study for each chapter...

Thus turning this great book into a 10 week Bible study.

Lioness Arising

From the Publisher:
Awaken. The lioness rises from her slumber, a magnificent image of strength, passion, and beauty. Her mere presence
commands the landscape, protects her young, and empowers the lion. In groups, lionesses become a creative and strategic force to be reckoned with, acting as one to change the world around them.

You too are a lioness.
In Lioness Arising, author and speaker Lisa Bevere offers the life and image of the lioness as a fierce and tender model for women. Revealing the surprising characteristics of this amazing creature, Lisa challenges women to discover fresh passion, prowess, and purpose.

Learn what it means to:

• be a stunning representation of strength
• fiercely protect the young
• lend your voice to the silenced
• live in the light and hunt in the dark
• raise a collective roar that changes everything

Packed with remarkable insights from nature and a rich depth of biblical references to lionesses, Lioness Arising is a call for women to rise up in strength and numbers to change their world.

Jesus is, after all, the lion of the Tribe of Judah.

We are his lioness arising.

My Review...Lisa Bevere's newest book, Lioness Arising Steams from a vision that God gave her years ago, Bevere introduces the lioness as a point of comparison to illustrate women's potential power, passion, prowess, and purpose once they are stirred awake.

When I first selected this book to review I had high hopes. While waiting for the book to arrive I was able to read the 1st chapter HERE.

Bevere speaks to the many roles of women, such being wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters of God. In addition she encourages women to be 'fierce' like a lioness in protecting all children, to use night vision to rescue those caught in darkness, to nurture and encourage other women, and to advocate for the voiceless!!

"This book introduces a change into the landscape of Christian thinking concerning women's role in ministry. It has been anticipated by countless women who have known deep down inside that they have been created to be world-changers. As a true spiritual mentor bent on helping women realize that they are God's creative answer to the problems the world is facing, Bevere shares sketches of personal experiences in her own spiritual journey. With solid biblical grounding throughout its entirety, this book will motivate women to awaken, rise up, lift their individual and collective voice and fulfill their God-given purpose to make a difference in the world."

"who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions," Hebrews 11:33

This Little Prayer of Mine

Nothing Compares to Childlike Faith
From the Publisher:

I know you're up in heaven, God,
and can hear my voice from there.
I'm just a little child.
Will you answer my short prayer?

So begins this delightful book that affirms God's readiness to answer our prayers, no matter what our age.

With engaging rhymes and beautiful illustrations, This Little Prayer of Mine assures children that God is always near--watching, listening, caring, and eager to respond to their requests. They'll also learn that prayer isn't just about asking for things, but about sharing their feelings of sadness and uncertainty as well as of thanksgiving and joy.
Most importanly, This Little Prayer of Mine reminds children—and those who love them—that they can trust God to tenderly care for them, no matter what the future holds.

This Little Prayer of Mine
I love this:
"And when my heart is very sad,
and tears roll down my face,
please help me be happy
so a smile take their place."
and this:
"For puppies, pies and Ice Cream,
my family and my friends.
But most of all I'm grateful
for you love that never ends."
I think that
Please Note this book is from my personal library and I was not comphensated in any way for this review
is a very sweet book. My son loves it. He will be 6 tomorrow, he is able to connect with every part of this prayer. Happiness, sadness, pain, ect. and the illastrations are beautiful & perfect, from a little girl with a broken doll, to a little boy being left out. I think Anothony DeStefano did a great job with This Little Prayer of Mine. My son and I both love the way the words flow together from page to page...like a poem, or even a song. This Little Prayer of Mineis a VERY easy read and he is able to read it on his own, which I love! This Little Prayer of Minewould be a perfect additon for anyone who has little one who is learning to read and loves Jesus!! :)

The Faith of Ronald Reagan

From the Publisher:
Explore the life and personality of President Ronald Reagan through the lens of his deep-felt Christian beliefs. With warmth and insight, Mary Beth Brown delves into the spiritual journey of America's 40th president and offers profound stories of God's providence in Ronald Reagan's life-from first making it as an actor to winning the presidency, from surviving an assassination attempt to eventually changing the face of world politics. With the support of Reagan's own words and writings and firsthand interviews with his family, friends, and co-workers, Brown weaves a magnificent story of Reagan's quiet, strong devotion to God, sure to both inform and inspire.
Timed for the Reagan centenary in 2011 and released in a season of intense political unrest, The Faith of Ronald Reagan is strikingly relevant for today's reader.

My Review...
My mom has told me the same story since I was a little girl. A story about how I was going to be named
Hearing this my whole life, sparked a interest in
 President Ronald Reagan quotes:
Reagan. She loved the name and she loved Ronald Reagan both as a actor first then as President. When she shared that she was thinking about naming me Reagan she was made fun of and worried that I might be as well...so here I am Britni.Ronald Reagan at a young age. I have always Admired him. Democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man. -

Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged. -

A personal favorite that means something very special to me...
Ronald Reagan
Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall! -

I remember watching the wall come down- Nov. 9th 1989 - my older brother Troy lived in Germany at the time, and called when the wall was coming down.

Not only are these all things that I admire about Ronald Reagan, but his spiritual life and marriage to Nancy have always been intriguing to me!

I absolutely LOVE this book! Mary Beth Brown did a beautiful job. This book is Jam packed full, of President Ronald Reagan's life. His life as a child, his marriage to adorable and Godly Nancy, His Children...ever thing. I just can't say enough, it is just wonderful. Through out the book there are a number of photos from is life, I really enjoyed seeing him as a child. Among others there is the emotional section about his farewell handwritten letter to the Nation and telling them (us) about his Alzheimer's disease.

"I intend to live the remainder of the years God gives me on this earth doing the things I have always done. I will continue to share life's journey with my beloved Nancy and my family. I plan to enjoy the great outdoors and stay in touch with my friends and supporters....In closing, let me thank you, the American people, for giving me the great honor of allowing me to serve as your president. When the Lord calls me home, whenever that may be, I will leave the greatest love for this country of ours and eternal optimism for its future.
I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead.
Thank you, my friends.
Sincerely,
Ronald Reagan"

Now, this is a man that truly had Jesus in his heart. I am so happy to have known about him, and I will be teaching my Children about our wonderful 40th President!
Not only was Mr. President a Believer, a Husband, a Father, and a Amazingly Caring Man. He was also a gifted writer:

taken from page 46
"One of his stories, entitled "Gethsemane" was about a football game. It begins with these words, "To every man comes Gethsemane!...Some fight the battle when old age is creeping on like a silent clinging vine."

taken from page 192
"Reagan was earnestly seeking God's will for his life and for his dearly love country. It worked. In a 1984 speech he said. "Saint Paul wrote a verse that I have always Cherished,'Now abide in faith, hope, love, these three: but the greatest of these is Love' May we have Faith in our God and in all the good that we can do with His help. May we stand in the Hope of making America all that she can be-a nation of opportunity and prosperity and a force for Peace and good will among nations. And may we remain steadfast in our Love for this green and gentle land and the freedom that she offers."

I would like to get this book for a number of people I know who think would TRULY enjoy it as I. Please get your self a copy! You will be so happy you did!

In Closing...
Page 202

"Upon his arrival in Heaven, I am sure Ronald Reagan finally saw his Lord Jesus Christ face-to-face and heard him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the Joy of the LORD."

Simply Beautiful!

 A little peek inside

December 24:
Christmas Dreams
"Where is the newborn King of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him." Matthew 2:2 (NLT)
"My sister -in-law, 'Holly', will be visiting from my country. She is having dreams about Jesus. May I bring her to the play?" My wife and I looked at each other as "Alan", on of the Middle Eastern English students, mentioned the upcoming Christmas Eve event. We had invited our entire class to attend the children's Nativity play at a local church. Knowing that Muslims often dream about Jesus when God's Spirit is working in their loves, we replied, "We would lobe that!"
While waiting for our friends to arrive on Christmas Eve, we pursed the program. Instead of the traditional story in Bethlehem, the play was set in the American Old West. Would this be confusing for our friends? When Alan and his family came in, we saw Holly stop abruptly. She then spoke quickly, using sweeping hand motions. She pointed to the altar, where the manger was placed. Alan translated, "This is the exact location of her dream. She walked down this aisle. She saw Jesus standing there, with his arms open for her. She bowed to Him there." Alan pointed to the manger.
We gave Holly a Bible, and she hugged it to her heart. We needn't have worried; juggling Chimpanzees could have been in the play, and Holly wouldn't have noticed. She sat smiling, reading her Bible the entire time - a dream come true!

Unto the Hills

When I was 18 my mom gave me a daily devotional for Christmas. For the last decade that is what my husband and I have used, reading it over and over all these years. I love the devotional, but a few months ago I found my self searching for something new and fresh for us. Unto the Hills: A daily Devotional by Billy Graham is just what I have been looking for. Each day is filled with Bible passages and encouraging words to help guide believers in their day to day lives. This is a great book, I would love to get it for all the Christians in my life.

A peek inside:
December 19
THE PLEDGE
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ.
He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts
as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NIV
As we trust in Christ, God gives us the Spirit not only as a seal. He is also our pledge, or, as some translations read, "ernest" or "guarantee," according to such passages as 2 Corinthians 1:21 and Ephesians 1:14.
"Now He who established us with you in Christ anointed us in God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge" 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NKJV.
In the apostle Paul's day, businessmen considered a pledge to do three things: it was a down payment that sealed a bargain, it represented an obligation to buy, and it was a sample of what was to come.
Suppose you were to decide to buy a car. The pledge would first be a down payment sealing the transaction. It would also represent your promise to pay the rest of the purchase price. This is what the Holy Spirit promises when we receive the "earnest of our inheritance" Eph. 1:14
As the great missionary statesmen Adoniram Judson once said, "The prospect is as bright as the promises of God."

Deliverd with Love

Delivered with Love

From the Publisher:
When 23-year-old Claire finds a 35-year-old love letter in the glove compartment of her inherited '72 Volkswagen bug, she decides to leave her life in L.A. and visit the town of Capitola, California. She just has to meet the man who sent that letter to her mom . . . whether he wants to be discovered or not! 352 pages, softcover from Abingdon.

My Review...
Claire finds old love letter 35 years after it was written at her mother's Memorial service. Starts Claire on a journey down the California coast to find the sender, this boy who seemed so in love with her mother. Along the way she meets many wonderful people...all of them just happen to be Christians! The Little the old couple who help her out and the young woman who becomes a friend when she needs one, all are always saying, "God will Provide"! When she gets to where she is going she finds a house to rent with a somewhat familiar realtor with a very familiar Mother. Her Neighbor is a handsome police officer.
I LOVE this book! It is 352 pages and I read it within 8 hours. Delivered with Love is full of God's love and forgiveness. Forgiving others is a very large part of this book. Note* There is a VERY tragic part of the story towards the end of the book, where I had to stop reading because I was crying. I really liked how through out the entire book the "The Lord with Provide" was mentioned. God's love is so amazing. Just reading about someone accepting Jesus into their heart was so powerful...I cried. The Author did a amazing job of creating characters with such depth. I have no favorite person in this book...they all are. Once the book is released in April 2011, I will be adding it to my library!

wonderment of our Heavenly home to come.

We were first introduced to this adorable little Polar Bear and Family, about two years ago when we found out we were having twins in a routine ultrasound. The ultrasound took place 5 days before my birthday. The Night of my birthday our doorbell rang, it was my dear friend Sharon dropping off a gift for my Birthday...a book. The Book was 'God gave us two' in the book the sweet Polar Bear's Mama gives birth to twins a boy and a girl. The gift was made even more special months later when, we learned we were too having a boy and a girl!

The Little Polar Bear Family quickly became a favorite in our home.
We were so excited to rip opened the package and start reading this 3 in 1 book! My 5 year old son was in love with this book from the moment he saw it! He loves that there is a old Polar Bear cub, and twin Polar Bear cubs...He said it's "Just like Us" :) These books are perfect for him.  He loved this "God might get mad if we hurt our world," Little Cub said.
"I get mad when the twins hurt my stuff." He was able to see that others feel the same way as him:)

I personally love this from God gave us Love:
"God gave us Love, all kinds of love.
The Love of mamas and papas,
the Love between friends and family.
And his Love too."

This would be the perfect addition to any family! These are wonderfully illustrated and full of Gods love! I look forward to adding all the Little Cub books to our family library!!

Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball a Novella

From the back cover of Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball a Novella:

"Every year, the Matchmaking booksellers of the Sage Street bookshop host a enchanting, old-fashioned Christmas Ball for the Romantic matches they've decided to bring together."

Enchanting...is the Perfect word to describe Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball a Novella

Favorite Quote: page 83

Sandy's words- "This is what Jesus said: 'Let the little Children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like little a child will never enter it.' Then the bible says Jesus took the children in His arms and blessed them. That means that people who think like a little child are special to God." The words of sweet Sandy gave me chills and tears. In my family we have our own special and very sweet "Sandy" and I love the way this is approached by Donita...Just beautiful and sweet!

Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball a Novella is a whimsical book about, a very different pair (Cora and Simon) with very different families, a peculiar street, a few odd shoppes and owners. Donita K. Paul has hit the jackpot with Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball, she uses fun whimsical names like Wizbotterdad & Booterbaw, with a old fashioned feel, in addition she paints a fantastic picture that makes you feel as if you are a part of this whimsical adventure.

From the moment I saw the cover of Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball I knew I would love it! From the very first word I was hooked. Without realizing it, I found my self half way through the book in only one short hour, I found my self laughing out loud many times. This is the kind of book you don't want to put down. When I did put it down, I found my self wondering what was going to happen and how events were going to play out!

Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball beautifully tells a story of God's Divine plan, and how events can play out to show us what has always been right in front of us! I found my self identifying with Cora's Family and Simon's family both at the same time. Sandy will make you smile & the Booterbaw Sisters will make you laugh! Two Tickets to the Christmas is Ball is a fun loving, whimsical, funny adventure that I would recommend to everyone! The book is filled with tons of smart quotes. It is a perfect book for a cold night when the kids are in bed, or by the fire.
